Sd.Kfz. 231 / 232 - Fu / 263 - Fu |
A total of close to 1,000 of these models (together) were produced from 1932 - 1937. |
The specs above fit all three versions of the six wheeled models, with the exception of the Sd.Kfz. 263. The turret of this vehicle was stationary, and had only a MG. |
Both the 232 and 263 were fitted with FuG long range radios. |
The three had a direction-change gearbox and a reverse driving position (two seperate steering wheels). |
The heavy armored car squadrons used both the 231, as a pure fighting vehicle and the 232 as a radio source within the unit. |
The 263 was typically attached to the intelligence units of a division. It was primarily used as a radio command post for medium level staffs and saw action until 1943. |
These six-wheeled vehicles were replaced by the eight-wheeled versions of heavy armored vehicles early on in 1937. Though some stayed on in units until 1942, most had been pulled out of action and were used for training purposes. |
Opinion on deployment : One for the "Rats" - It's not obsoletely necessary to have this one for War #1. Even though they played a big part in the Polish and French campaigns, their career was short lived.
